This a technique used to help focus on studies and it helps you do more effective work. By placing a time limit for you work, it helps you make as much progress as possible within the given time.
- Have a to do list
- Set a timer for 25 minutes and focus on the task until the time ends.
- When the time is up, have a five minute break
- Then repeat this 4 times and then take a longer 15-30 minute break
- Then repeat the above steps again
Why is pomodoro effective?
Since pomodoro involves smaller, more manageable tasks it makes it easier to start and complete. You are less likely to feel overwhelmed by how much you have to do and instead can do it in parts in each of the 25 minutes.
This technique helps you avoid distractions since there is a break inbetween where you can allow yourself to relax and then focus your attention back on your work.
The timer makes you aware of how you spend your time and will also help you plan your days.
Tips when using the Pomodoro Techniques
- Plan out what you are going to do in advance during each pomodoro session and assess how long each task will take, so you can then either group smaller tasks with others and increase your productivity.
- Make sure to actually take your breaks and not continue working throughout the breaks, as overall it will decrease productivity
- If 25 minutes is too long you can make it shorter or even extend the time. So adjust according to what works best for you.
- Try doing the techniques with someon else so you can feel more motivated and make sure everyone stays on track.
- Try not to go on your phone during the five minute break since you are more inclined to be distracted when you attempt to return to work.
- Never work for over two hours without a break since it can lead to exhaustion and reduce motivation
This technique does not work for everyone but it is a suggestion that you can try if you struggle to focus and can get easily distracted.
