General Practitioners (GPs) are the cornerstone of primary healthcare, providing comprehensive medical care for patients of all ages. They diagnose and treat a wide range of acute and chronic conditions, offer preventive care through regular check-ups and screenings, manage chronic diseases, and provide mental health support.
GPs also play a critical role in family medicine, offering personalised care that takes into account the family medical history and dynamics. By coordinating with specialists, they ensure that patients receive seamless, high-quality care across various healthcare settings. Ultimately, GPs’ holistic and patient-centred approach ensures the well-being of the entire community, making them indispensable to the healthcare system.
But what is it like to work within the NHS system as a GP in this day and age? Why did Dr Dion decide on General Practice out of an array of specialties? What experiences did she gain before making the decision to become a GP?
You can ask Dr Dion herself all these questions and more at the Wider Reading Society on Thursday 27th June, 7-8pm.
